Description:
An area of study that provides individuals with the skills, techniques, and tools to succeed in a wide range of organizational settings is Industrial Engineering. Industrial Engineering involves the design, installation, resource allocation and improvement of integrated systems. These systems may be composed of one, some, or all of the following: people, information, equipment, energy, materials, software, and processes. If solving problems, interacting on multi-disciplinary teams, and working in one of the many facets of Industrial Engineering are of interest to you, then consider the M.S. in Industrial Engineering. We offer a selected number of courses through distance education. Our program is appropriate for those individuals with scientific or engineering undergraduate degrees who seek to develop their knowledge and skills in industrial engineering and operations research.
Delivery Method:
Engineering
Requirements:
Students seeking regular admission to the NMSU Graduate School must hold and
undergraduate or advanced degree from an accredited institution with an overall
grade point average of 3.0 to 4.0. Students with other equivalent backgrounds
may be admitted if they meet the prerequisites stated below.

Students are eligible for regular admission to graduate study in the Industrial
Engineering graduate program if the following conditions are met:

A student holds a bachelor`s degree in Engineering from a school accredited
by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology and has taken a course
in calculus-based probability and statistics, OR

A student holds a bachelor`s degree from an accredited school and meets the
math prerequisites of the Industrial Engineering department which are:

<span class=""showBullets"">

9 hours in calculus,

3 hours in differential equations,

3 hours in calculus-based probability and statistics

All students must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 to 4.0 during
their last 60 hours of undergraduate study.

Required Courses:
The requirements for a Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering can
be met with two different options:

Project Option, consisting of 30 credits, OR

Course-Only Option, consisting of 30 credits.

Students are required to visit the NMSU campus in Las Cruces for the final
Master`s oral exam for the program. At the Master`s level, a student enrolled
in the MSIE program must take at least 50% of the coursework required for the
degree while enrolled in the NMSU program. Coursework done elsewhere after initiation
of graduate studies in the program must have prior approval of the department
and the Dean of the Graduate School if such work is to be transferred. For work
to be transferred into the program transfer credit must be earned from an accredited
institution offering a similar degree and the student must have been enrolled
