Delivery Methods

Online

A course in which learners access primary content and instruction using a variety of internet-based tools: including email, chat, discussion boards, web pages, and multimedia technologies. Students may or may not be required to attend a small percentage of class time on campus.

Blended/Hybrid

A course in which learning events combine aspects of both online and face-to-face instruction, with online instruction comprising 50% or more of the delivery methodology.

ITV/ Video Conferencing

ITV/video conferencing refers primarily to instruction that is delivered via 2-way video and audio between 2 or more ITV-equipped facilities. Students attend classroom settings in either the origination or remote sites facilities.

Additional Important Definitions

Synchronous learning

Learning environment in which instructors and students communicate in a real-time, virtual classroom setting. Instructors and students take part in live lectures, discussions and demonstrations, utilizing various technologies, such as: audio and video conferencing, VoIP/Internet telephony, or two-way broadcasting. In this environment, students can receive immediate feedback during ?class-time? along with delayed feedback outside of class-time.

Asynchronous learning

Learning environment in which instructors and students communicate in a time-delay setting. Instruction is provided for students to access at their convenience and feedback is provided to the instructor at a later time. Discussions also take place between students in a time-delay environment, although many web-based platforms now provide for live text chat between students and instructors.
